That's when I came across the McDavid open-patella, metal-hinged knee stabilizer, Large size. I put it on and I could walk again. This sounds like a good thing, and it IS. One plus for McDavid. However, after wearing it for only a few hours in the car (not even walking), I noticed the brace had chafed me so badly behind the outside part of the upper knee, that I wondered why it was so badly designed. I had a bloody scab the next day and that area of chafing was very sore and swollen. Additionally, while I was in the car, and with brace -underneath- my pants, I would have to roll down the windows every 20 minutes to get the highly overt, repulsive pool-toy-vinyl smell of the brace completely out of my confined breathing airspace. Since I had been putting DMSO and copper arthritis creme and other ointments/salves on the patellar area, I wondered just how many damning molecules of volatile polyvinyls, pthalates and/or other noxious rubber-related chemicals were getting into my bloodstream (quicker because of the dmso, mind you). I've read that these toxic substances mimic estrogens and other hormones to a significant degree (among other unpredictable and unwanted side-effects). I don't know what chemical I was smelling, but as a general rule, if it smells strongly like a pool toy, it is without a doubt harmful to the body. Two Minuses for McDavid. --- Feedback for McDavid: Why are you making expensive health products so cheaply that they harm people? Isn't the point of your products to help people get better (without a tradeoff)? Are your shareholders also users of your products? Suggestion: Use higher quality materials. Design smarter. Listen to your customers and test your products first. I'm sure i'm not the first to notice these problems. Here's why: I took your product back to walgreens. I'm looking for another brace that fits better and doesn't stink and hopefully costs the same or less than your overly expensive products. -mcn
